YMCAs across Virginia exist to strengthen their communities and every day we work with thousands of men, women, and children to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Each year:

  • 1,000,000 Virginians are served by the Y
  • Over 190,000 children's lives are enriched through youth programs
  • Over $19,500,000 is distributed through program and membership financial assistance
  • More than 28,000 volunteers are engaged.

Youth Development

We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. The Y is the largest provider of child care in the Commonwealth, offering families affordable, high-quality care through preschool, after-school and camp programs. Scholarships, subsidies and outreach provide critical assistance to low-income families, ensuring all children are able to participate in Y programs.

The Y is so much more than a gym. We are committed to helping people reach their full potential by promoting healthy lifestyles. With a mission centered on balance, we bring families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through fitness, sports and fun through our easily accessible programs. Virginia Ys offer health and wellness programs to youth, families and older adults.

Social Responsibility

Part of the Y mission is to give back to our communities and help everyone, regardless of income, be a member of the YMCA family. From the volunteers who give their time and energy to support our mission, to the amount of scholarship we give to families who cannot afford a membership, we strive to fulfill our responsibility to our communities every day.
